It was with great sadness that we heard the news of Gowery Shangary Thavarasha’s untimely death. I had the privilege of working with her since 1989. She had been the Instructing Attorney as well as my Junior in numerous cases. She acted with complete dedication to the cause of her clients. Her commitment to the cause of her clients is a clear example which should be emulated by all young Attorneys-at-Law.
Gowry was a much sought after Lawyer. She was always ready to undertake what appeared to be unpopular cases. Persons who were harassed for various reasons sought her assistance to seek justice. She acted with complete commitment in those cases to the utmost satisfaction of her clients. When She undertook a case she attended to it promptly and meticulously. She sometimes went out of her way to ensure that justice was meted outto her clients.
In addition to working with Gowry in my professional capacity she and her husband K.V.Thavarasha, President’s Counsel were close family friends. She was always very concerned about the wellbeing of her friends and we could count on her in any difficulty. Having associated with Gowry and Thava very closely we are aware she was a very caring wife and was concerned about Thava’s health sometimes even neglecting of her own. That is the very reason why it is very difficult for Thava to come to terms with her sudden demise.
I am also aware that she took a very keen interest in the wellbeing of her Juniors and the Staff that worked in her office. She helped many a young Lawyer to develop in their professional careers for which they are very grateful to her and remember her with affection.
